Royal & SunAlliance - moving to a new learning management system without leaving the current e-learning investment behind

When leading insurance company Royal & SunAlliance decided to standardise on Saba's learning management system (LMS), it faced a problem: what to do with the (incompatible) e-learning content that it had already invested in, and how to maintain that content (and add to it) in the future?

Royal & SunAlliance is one of the world's leading insurance groups. The company employs around 38,000 people, transacts business in some 130 countries and has around 20 million customers around the globe.

E-learning is very important to Royal & SunAlliance - it's used to provide training to employees worldwide. The decision to move to Saba was a logical one, but it could have meant abandoning previous e-learning materials. Transition provided the solution.

Lectora was recommended and accepted as an excellent platform-independent development tool, which would allow Royal & SunAlliance to manage its own courses - regardless of which LMS was used (although, of course, Lectora integrates perfectly with Saba).

Transition developed a migration process, which converted current e-learning materials into XML format - so that it could be imported into Lectora, into a new set of templates which provided a unified look-and-feel to the materials.

In addition, Transition provided 'e-learning enablement' services to help Royal & SunAlliance better manage its own e-learning requirements. This included the development of a comprehensive e-learning methodology and toolset, to help the company manage e-learning projects from end to end.

The result was exactly what was needed: all of the legacy material was moved painlessly to the new strategic platform, Saba, where it can be maintained and added to (by Royal & SunAlliance’s own team) using Lectora - all within a best-practice framework which ensures consistent results.
